Craig Robinson - Live

Hello my fellow Dundermaniacs!

Last night I took in Craig Robinson's stand-up act at Southern Connecticut State University and it was a riot!

Upon taking my seat you could already see the perfect setup for Craig on the stage. A single chair, a microphone and an electric keyboard for him to play.

After a lukewarm reaction to the opening comedian, Craig was introduced and the audience met him with a roar of applause and cheers. He walked right to his chair, cleared his throat and began to play a very powerful classical sounding piece of music, which then segued into the music of "If You're Happy And You Know It" - without Craig singing, and the audience instinctively clapped our hands at the appropriate part. Then came verse two, and the audience again clapped their hands - that's when Craig BANGED on the keyboard and yelled "It's stomp your feet mother#&*#^#s"!

THAT was the opening of the show that lasted about 45 minutes and had the audience laughing throughout. Craig played songs and had the audience singing along all night. Songs included Eye of the Tiger, Summer Loving, All My Life, Here Comes the Bride, and many many others - each one interspersed with Craig's own words and hilarity.

Craig then did some Q&A from the crowd after his set. We learned that he believes Steve Carell is one of the funniest people he's ever met, and Will Farrell is hilarious at every moment. Craig had no idea if Daryl will stay with Kelly in the long run, he doesn't know what Daryl is doing every week until he gets to the table read for each episode. He is not going to put out a music album anytime soon - at least not until he gets a bit "older and wiser" and he loves working with Judd Apatow.

The closing number? His song from the "Local Ad" episode of "The Office" and then right into The Office theme. Brilliant!

After the show, Craig stayed around and did a meet and greet with fans and as I made it out of the auditorium, the line was already wrapped around the hallway and back to meet him.

If you ever see Craig is coming anywhere near you for his act, you need to get there. You won't be disappointed. Excuse the blur of the photo - cameras were not allowed, so I snuck that one. Yeah, I'm all about breaking the rules for our readers!
